There’s a new 120-capacity venue opening 9th March in Hackney, east London. The intimate two-level space, from the team behind former Hackney Wick spot Shapes, has been dubbed The Glove That Fits.
The venue’s primary event space is located in the basement and boasts a d&b audiotechnik soundsystem for the 80-cap room. Upstairs, there is a smaller bar and cafe. Programming will range from club nights to spoken-word events and radio broadcasts.
Dimensions Festival will be co-hosting the opening night event, an EP release show for the multi-talented beatmaker Kerem Akdag.
“We don’t believe ‘bigger is better,’ said operations manager Dyllan Zain. “Some of best events we’ve experienced have been the most intimate. There is a unique sense of connectivity between artist, audience and environment. At its core, it’s a free space where people can hang out and listen to sounds DJs don’t normally get to play. It’s an artist-led programme which provides Hackney and the surrounding area with a platform for experimentation—in whatever form it takes. The curiously weird and wonderful are welcome here.”
For those looking for larger rooms, a “Crystal Ball” arena is in the works for Stratford, east London soon enough. Broadwick Live are also set to open a new 3000-capacity venue in March.
