So many people look at being a DJ as a “Side Hustle”, even celebrities however for a good number of us it’s a full time career and our hobbies are now moonlighting opportunities. Some of us actually started out with the idea to be a DJ part time but then found ways to parlay it into a full time gig. For instance, I never knew I would end up being a full time DJ.
was at a 9 to 5 job that I absolutely hated, going to acting & modeling school, working my “side hustle” as a brand ambassador/promo model, and playing cd’s in a bar for cash Thursday-Sunday nights. It wasn’t until after 3 months of doing this & working myself to death that on my way home from my DJ gig I fell asleep while driving and crashed my car. Thank god I was ok but that definitely prompted me to immediately re-think my time management and adjust my schedule after that scare. I loved everything I was doing besides that pesky 9-5 gig however it was the only job providing a large portion of my steady income at the time. I decided go Off The Wall, leave that nine to five upon the shelf and just enjoy myself. What’s the worst that could happen right?! I must admit that it was really difficult to keep my head above water at first but definitely turned out to be the best decision of my life. I’ve been a full time DJ for over 10 years now and I have several side hustles not necessarily because I need them but simply because I can and want them. It feels good to have the time and resources to spend on creating lucrative opportunities doing what I consider to be my fun hobbies. It’s even better when these things work hand-in-hand like DJ/Producer, DJ/Photographer, DJ/Audio Tech, etc or when you can offer your side hustle services to your clients and industry friends. You Can Do It, with a little hard work, determination, and networking you’d be surprised at what you are able to accomplish. Whatever you do on the side Hustle Hard, Pimpin Ain’t Easy playaz.
