Opie and Anthony Disciplined

XM Satellite Radio on Tuesday suspended shock jocks Opie and Anthony for 30 days, saying it wanted to make clear “that our on-air talent must take seriously the responsibility that creative freedom requires of them.”

The pair had apologized Friday for airing a homeless man’s crude comments about wanting to have sex with Laura Bush, Condoleezza Rice and Queen Elizabeth. But on Monday’s program, they made remarks that called into question “whether they appreciate the seriousness of the matter,” XM said in a news release. The company had condemned the initial comments last week.

The DJs, Greg “Opie” Hughes and Anthony Cumia, were fired by CBS Radio in 2002 for running a contest that led to two listeners apparently having sex in New York’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral. They were hired by XM in 2004.
