A lot of people love vinyl for its scratchy, warm sound. But a startup company out of Austria called Rebeat Innovation has secured $4.8 million in funding to produce high definition vinyl. Their goal is to make records that sound better, play louder, and play longer than typical LPs.
The process is a bit involved. It requires a computer to “convert audio digitally to a 3D topographic map“. Lasers then get in on the action by pressing grooves into the vinyl.
The best part might be the fact that this new vinyl-making process does not involve any of the potentially toxic chemicals that are usually used to make vinyl.
Rebeat Innovation is hoping to release their HD vinyl records by the summer of 2019.
Will you be running out to buy one of these, or will conventional vinyl be your number one choice?
