Women DJs are making amazing music behind the turn table all over the world these days. From classical musicians to singer-songwriters to skilled musical directors, these ladies are laying down sick beats and getting the party started.
Here are some of the best Female DJs out there today, in no particular order:
Niara Sterling, New York
Sterling is known for her party series PERK (which was co-created with DJ JADALAREIGN), which is a mix of live instruments and soul, funk, R&B, and rap. She is also a resident at House of Yes (Brooklyn, NY), although, at the time of this publishing, the venue is closed due to COVID. However, her radio show, Nature of a Sista (Balamii Radio) demonstrates her talent. She has also served a musical director for Masego, Talib Kweli, and Alxndr London.
DJ 9AM, New York
DJ 9AM, aka, Angel Monique, is known throughout the city that never sleeps for her excellent parties. She learned from renowned DJ Scratch, making her versatile and skilled at keeping the party going. Her audiophile fanbase loves her deep cuts, but she is also known for a no-frills attitude and crowd control skills. When we aren’t in a pandemic, she is known for her “4 Lovers Only” party at SOBs (New York, NY). However, until things open up a bit and travel gets easier, you can catch her beats at Breakfast with 9AM podcast anytime.
DJ EDICA+, Texas
A self-described sound designer, esoteric curator, and warrior, EDICA+ produces music that Essence.com describes as “otherworldly, intoxicating, and flavorful.” Hailing from Corpus Christi, TX, EDICA+ is known for bringing together sounds from all over the world, including Caribbean, Latin, Indian and African tracks. Her work has been featured on Playground Radio (out of Brooklyn, NY), #NotAnother90sParty, ElectroBounce (Houston), and SXSW.
Nastia, Ukraine
Since 2005, Nastia has been everywhere (until 2020, of course). Playing Europe, Japan, North Africa, South America, and Russia, Nastia is a role model for other women who want to get into DJ-ing. She is a techno diva, with a vibe and energy that energizes the dancefloor. Her tracks range from Melodic House and Techno to Tech House to just plain House and are sure to set the mood and keep it going.
Anja Schneider, Germany
Anja Schneider is from Germany, the techno capital of Europe. With splashes of her deep house and progressive sounds, Schneider is arguably one of the best techno DJs in the business. Global DJs Guide describes her sound as “deep vibe and minimal-Techno.” She is also the founder of Mobilee Records, which has several successful musicians. She can be found in the Pacha Ibiza nightclubs or at the ADE festival in the Netherlands.
Alison Wonderland, Australia
Alison Wonderland has more than a clever play on book titles for a name. Her background as a classical cellist has contributed to her unique sounds, as well as her time with the bass guitar. Since 2015, Wonderland has been a darling of the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA), making their top 100 list in 2018. Also, ARIA certified her first release, “Run,” as Gold.

Rezz, Niagara Falls, Ontario
Rezz, aka, Isabelle Rezazadeh, is a Canadian DJ that was born in Ukraine. She has been a DJ since 2006, when she was just 16. Her early mixing used other artists work, but now she makes her own also. Her big break came from blogger, Skrillex, and the rest is history. In 2018, she won “Electronic Album of the Year” from the Juno Awards for her studio album, Mass Manipulation. Other accolades include #19 on The Best EDM Artist of 2020, and #25 of The Best Dubstep Artists of 2020, and #1 The Best Female DJs & EDM Artists, and #272 on Best DJs of 2020, by Ranked.
Krewella, Chicago, IL
Krewella is an EDM duo, made up of sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf that have been mastering the turn tables since 2007. Contrary to popular belief, their name is not a play on the Disney villain Cruella de Vil, but instead the result of Jahan’s poor spelling skills for the word “cruel.” Known for their dance-pop, dance-rock style, the duo says their influences include progressive house, electro, dubstep, drum and bass, trap music and future base. Krewella plays festivals worldwide, including the Ultra Music Festival, Stereosonic, and Sunburn Festival, among others. Their January 2020 track, Greenlights, resulted in their second number one on Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart by April 2020. Ranker gives the Krewella high marks, including #39 of 102 for The Best Dubstep Artists and #10 of 51 on The Best EDM Duos of All Time.
