A mainstay in this poll, Anzuclub — located in Itu, just an hour’s drive from São Paulo — has undergone some pretty impressive developments since the voting closed earlier in 2016. Two weeks after carnival last year, this warehouse, which once also housed a Japanese restaurant, reopened its doors with a newly stacked JBL Vertec soundsystem and raised video-mapped, pod-like booths placed on the side wall to create extra space for ravers within the club’s gargantuan main room.
Since, amidst a sea of raised hands and iPhones flashing, this industrial monolith has enjoyed its biggest 12 months yet — both in terms of size and big-room energy. Bob Sinclar, Boris Brejcha, Shiba San (Dirtybird showcase), Kolombo and local superstar Vintage Culture have all been booked to rock the main room in recent months, and the outdoor terrace (Pistinha) continues to bring naughty house and techno beats until sunrise. With Brazil’s scene for 120bpm dance music stronger than ever, Anzu remains one of the nation’s leading lights.
